Background

The golf tournament is in place to honor the lives of James J. Stoddard Sr and Jr, better known and Chuck and Jamie. Jamie gave his life while serving in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. Chuck passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Jamie was an amazing person. He was a star athlete in high school, and a great friend. Most importantly, he was an amazing member of his family. He was a father, a son, a husband and so much to everyone. He was the kind of man who called his family every day, even when he was thousands of miles away.

Jamie began his career in the Army in 1997. While he missed his family and friends when he was overseas, he knew he had a greater calling and answered it with pride. Jamie did his job and did it with perfection.

Jamie did not become the man that he was without the guidance and example set by his father, Chuck, whom is also being honored.

Chuck was in the Army as a young adult proudly serving in Vietnam. He went on to become a police officer in his hometown in New York before relocating his family to the Crofton area. He coached at GORC for many years while his children were involved. When his children played sports at Arundel High School, he was the first to be at the games and the last to leave. Chuck was his kids’ biggest fan and was not afraid to show it.

Chuck was the center and root of his family and friends. He did not differentiate in his children, nieces, nephews, friends and family, everyone was treated and loved the same. Chuck was the constant in everyone’s lives. He was generous, not just with material things but also with his love. By just being himself he became a role model and mentor for all that knew him.
